FAQ

Microsuction Questions

What is Micro-suction?

It removes Ear wax using a small specialist suction tube to gently remove excess earwax without touching the ear drum. It is the most preferred method of ear wax removal provided by a trained specialist.

Is micro suction suitable for all cases of ear wax removal?

No, the specialist will conduct a full consultation prior to any procedure undertaken. There may be conditions that may result in ear wax removal not being performed such as ear infections, perforated ear drums, scarring through previous injury or even surgery.

Can Micro-suction Remove Hard Ear Wax?

Yes, it can but it is more effective if the wax is pre-softened with olive oil a few days before the procedure. If the wax is too hard, the specialist may ask you to come back for a second appointment to avoid significant discomfort.

Is Micro-suction Safe?

Yes, if performed correctly and by an appropriately trained specialist. The consultation will include an ear check to ensure it is appropriate for you to get it done. We will explain the whole procedure to you.

Is Micro-suction Painful?

The process is gentle and generally pain-free. It can cause mild discomfort initially as it feels strange to be poking something in your ear. It feels like a loud ‘sucking’ or ‘whistling’ motion in your ear. It is more comfortable and easier if ear wax is softened first.

Can Impacted Ear Wax correct itself?

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely it will go away by itself. This is because the ear wax hardens and sticks to itself and normal jaw movements and muscles cannot move it out of the ear naturally.
